Andre Drummond Named To Team USA

Pistons center Andre Drummond has been named to USA Basketball's 12-man roster for the 2014 World Cup Team. Drummond had 12 points and five rebounds in Wednesday’s win against the Dominican Republic. The 2014 World Cup is scheduled to be held Aug. 30-Sept. 14 in Spain.  The USA opens on Aug. 30 against Finland, and then faces Turkey on Aug. 31. Following a day off on Sept. 1, the Americans resume play Sept. 2 versus New Zealand. The U.S. will go against the Dominican Republic on Sept. 3 and will conclude its preliminary play on Sept. 4 against the Ukraine. Read more...

Lions And Jags Tonight In Detroit

The Lions will play host to the Jags tonight in preseason game number three. Receiver Calvin Johnson will play in his first game after being held out against the Browns and Raiders. Defensive end Ziggy Ansah could also make his preseason debut for Detroit. Ansah spent the first two weeks of camp on the PUP list after off-season shoulder surgery. Most of the Lions starters will play into the second half. Kickers Nate Freese and Giorgio Tavecchio will alternate on field goals. Former Wolverines Denard Robinson and Chad Henne return to the state now with Jacksonville.  Detroit enters play with a 1-and-1 mark in exhibition play.

Verlander Hoping To Return On Saturday

The Tigers hope to have pitcher Justin Verlander back in the rotation real soon. Verlander, who has inflammation in his right shoulder, threw for about 10 minutes on Tuesday. Verlander said afterward his arm felt loose and felt good. If Verlander throws Thursday and doesn't suffer a setback, he could return Saturday to start against the Twins. Last week, an MRI on Verlander's shoulder had shown inflammation but no structural damage. He is 10-and-11 on the year. Read more...

Tigers And Rays Tonight In Tampa

The Tigers will face the Rays tonight on the road. Max Scherzer will get the start for Detroit, while Tampa Bay counters with Chris Archer. Scherzer beat the Rays with eight innings of one-run ball on July 3rd. Both teams dropped important series over the weekend, with the Tigers losing two of three against the Mariners and the Rays dropping two of three to the Yankees. Detroit is two games behind Kansas City for first place in the American League Central. Read more...

Tigers Place Sanchez, Soria On Disabled List

The Tigers will be without starter Anibal Sanchez and reliever Joakim Soria for a awhile. Both right-handers were placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday morning. Sanchez suffered a right pectoral muscle strain, while Soria is dealing with a left oblique strain. Team president/GM Dave Dombrowski said he expects Sanchez to miss 3-4 weeks. Dombrowski said Soria's oblique injury usually takes two or three weeks to heal. Read more...

Torii Hunter Banged Up In The Bronx

Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter is day-to-day after leaving Tuesday night's game against the Yankees after being hit in the left hand with a pitch. Hunter, who will be reevaluated today, suffered a contusion and X-rays were negative. With the score tied 3-3 in the ninth, Hunter was struck by a pitch from Yankees reliever Dellin Betances. Eugenio Suarez Leaves Game With Sprained Knee

Tigers shortstop Eugenio Suarez left last night's game against the Yankees because of a sprained left knee. Suarez suffered the injury in the fifth inning while sliding nto second base on a steal. Suarez will be reevaluated today. Manager Brad Ausmus says chances are Suarez will miss more than one day. Suarez missed two games in June because of a knee injuury.    Read more...
