The Locker Room > Clippers Owner Donald Sterling Reportedly Battling Cancer Clippers Owner Donald Sterling Reportedly Battling Cancer Posted on 5/2/2014 8:42:00 AM by Dave Kim Ronald Martinez/Getty Images It's been a rough week for current Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling. The furor over Sterling's racist comments caught on tape has earned him a lifetime ban from the NBA and possibly his team. Reports are now surfacing that Sterling is battling cancer. The New York Post is reporting that Sterling, 80, is suffering from prostate cancer. The newspaper cites a source close to the situation, who says those within the real estate mogul's inner circle were expecting him to die two years ago. “People have been predicting his imminent demise. I’m sure he has the best . . . drugs money can buy,” said the source, “He can do anything to keep himself alive.” In a strange twist of fate, Sterling refused to pay for prostate cancer treatments when then-Clippers assistant coach Kim Hughes needed surgery. “I contacted the Clippers about medical coverage and they said the surgery wouldn’t be covered,” Hughes said in 2011. “They said if they did it for one person, they’d have to do it for everybody else.” Four Clippers players ended up paying for the $70,000 operation. The report also notes that Sterling has been calling friends to tell him he's not a racist after being banned on Tuesday. However, his friends have been refusing out of fear that the calls were being recorded. Does the news of Sterling's cancer battle change your opinion about the man?
