Disgraced Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling will no longer take part in the team's basketball operations. The NBA announced that Sterling is banned for life from the league.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver announced the decision in a press conference today. In addition to the ban, the league will fine Sterling $2.5 million and will attempt a forced sale of the team.
The punishment was made as a result of Sterling's racist comments that surfaced over the weekend.
“The views expressed by Mr. Sterling are deeply offensive and harmful,” Silver said. “That they came from an NBA owner only heightens the damage and my personal outrage.”
Silver also said that Sterling confirmed that it was his voice on the recording.
The NBA will need a 3/4 vote from the board of governors to force Sterling to sell the team.
