Cass Tech QB and MSU Recruit Jayru Campbell Arrested for Assault

Cass Tech quarterback Jayru Campbell has found himself in legal trouble after body slamming a security guard at school.

Fox 2 Detroit reports that Campbell was involved in an altercation with one of the guards Wednesday afternoon (January 22). The verbal spat led to the Michigan State football recruit allegedly slamming the man to the ground in the hallways of Cass Tech. Video of the incident has surfaced online.

Campbell was arrested by the Detroit Public School police department and remains in custody as of this morning. Campbell has led Cass Tech to back-to-back Division 1 state championships in 2011 and 2012. The junior was suspended after punching an opposing player during the post-game handshake line last November.

Campbell has verbally committed to Michigan State for the 2015 season. Head coach Mark Dantonio and his staff will have a tough decision to make in regards to supporting or cutting ties with the high school star.

ESPN wrote a story about Campbell's tough upbringing in Detroit, whose father was in jail when he was born. Cass Tech head coach Thomas Wilcher helped fill that void.

"There have been times where I go over to Coach Wilcher's house just to watch TV," Campbell told ESPN. "I help him out with yard work just to get away from my house. As far as a father figure, I don't really have one to look up to or go home to. If I don't feel comfortable, I can just go to Coach Wilcher's house, the door is always open."
