  • Verlander Ready To Return

    Justin Verlander is ready to return after his bullpen session went well on Thursday morning at Tropicana Field. Verlander threw about 35 pitches off the bullpen mound with no apparent setbacks. He is now expected to start one half of the Tigers' doubleheader against the Twins on Saturday in Minnesota. Verlander missed his last start with right shoulder inflammation. Read More
  • Tigers Land In Minnesota

    Following a tough loss to the Rays on Thursday, the Tigers will open a weekend series with the Twins tonight in Minnesota. Robbie Ray will get the start for Detroit. Ray will make his third straight start after spending a few months at Triple-A Toledo. On Thursday, the Rays beat the Tigers, 1-0. David Price returned to Tropicana Field and went the distance, striking out nine and retiring the final 23 batters he faced after allowing his only hit -- an RBI triple by Brandon Guyer in the first. The Tigers are a half game ahead of the Mariners for the second wild card spot in the American League. Detroit is also 1 1/2 games behind Kansas City for first place in the AL Central. Read More

There was the brutal Paul George injury, the untimely Kevin Durant exodus, possible injury worries surrounding Demarcus Cousins and Derrick Rose, and the noticeable absences of guys like Lebron James and Russell Westbrook. Still, with 2 exhibition games remaining before the World Cup kicks up on August 30 in Spain, Coach K and USA Basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo have an attractive pool of 16 candidates from which to choose, and the US team should be regarded as heavy favorites headed into the tournament. Deciding on the final roster will be just as tough as all the aforementioned issues the two men have faced, and guys like the Pistons’ Andre Drummond are determined to make it even tougher on Coach K and Jerry C.
